Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A lovely textile coca bag of a sizable form comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of espresso, grey, coffee, and cream. The bag features a rectangular body with vertical stripes of lighter hues set against the dark-brown ground, and a lengthy strap arching over top displays a register of abstract zoomorphic figures using the double weave technique - the reverse face coloration is opposite from the obverse. Size: 18" L x 10" W (45.7 cm x 25.4 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection

Condition
Strap is fraying at both ends and attached by a few threads and could detach if handled too much and should be reinforced. Decorative motifs are well preserved. Rest of bag is in great condition with some pulls to fibers, but intact and tightly woven.
