Ch’uspa Matrimonial Coca Bag, Department of Cochabamba, Early 19th C. Original strap. Alpaca warp and weft. Natural Dyes. Although the indigenous people currently speak Quechua. This bag displays an array of traditional Aymara iconography from a previous era when the population spoke Aymara. Prominent is the Pre-Columbian heaven and earth design. The bag features an array of natural dye. colors, showing that the fine art of dying was still at its height in 19th C. highland. Size: 11" x 8'' (28 x 20 cm).
