Title: 3 of 8 Utagawa Kunisada 1860 Bijinga Ukiyo-e Woodblock Print
Description: this is one of eight bijinga, or beautiful women, prints we have for auction by renowned print artist Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III. This print shows a woman in formal kimono and an ornate hairstyle holding an object wrapped in white cloth. The print was published in February of 1860 by the publisher Horikoshi. The second publisher seal is unidentified.
Signed: Toyokuni Ga (art by Toyokuni) in red and yellow cartouche on bottom left corner. In bottom center of image is KorikoshiÂ’s seal. Second publisher seal next to artist signature is unidentified.
Circa: 1860
Dimensions: 14.5x10 inches
Condition: some toning on paper, although pigments are still vivid. Some wear to edges of paper. No rips, tears, pinholes, insect damage, or creases!
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
