Title: 1851 Utagawa Kunisada Bijinga 6 of 8 Woodblock Print Ukiyo-e
Description: This is one of the eight bijinga ukiyo-e prints we have for auction by Utagawa Kunisada. Bijinga prints are images of beautiful women. This print shows two women stepping on stones over a river; one woman is a noblewoman and the woman behind her is her maid, holding the long furisode sleeves for her lady. The noblewoman has a pipe in one hand. The colors in this print are very vivid and so beautiful! Utagawa Kunisada is also known as Toyokuni III. Published by Yamaguchi.
Signed: Toyokuni Ga (Art by Toyokuni) in cartouche in lower right side. Two censor seals- Mera Ta Ichiro and Watanabe Shoemon- near cartouche. Publisher Seal Yamaguchi in lower left corner.
Circa: 1851
Dimensions: 14.675x10 inches
Condition: Tear in upper right corner. Some toning on paper and wear on outside corners. No major creases, no stains, and no rips or insect damage!
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
