Title: 1859 Utagawa Kunisada Woodblock Print Ukiyo-e Woman w Sword
Description: This is an antique Japanese woodblock print or ukiyo-e by Utagawa Kunisada in October of 1859. The print shows a woman with a casual kimono holding a sword in her mouth while she gathers her clothes in her arms looking behind her. A sparrow is flying above her and rain is pouring. The dark background of this print showcases the wood grain of the cherry wood block that was used to print it! The print is signed by Kunisada in the red and yellow toshidama cartouche, with a censor and date seal above it. One of the publishers is Ouya Eikichi, whose seal is to the left of the figure, the other publisher is unidentified, with a seal next to the artist signature.

Dimensions: 14x9.25 inches
Condition: Mounted on antique backing paper. Some fading on the paper and inks although most ink is still very vivid. No creases, tears, folds, waves, or rips on the paper! Just some light wear to outer edge.
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
