Title: Antique Utagawa Kunisada Actor Woodblock Ukiyo-e Kangiku no Kinomatsu
Description: An antique woodblock print ukiyo-e dated 1861 by Utagawa Kunisada. The print shows the actor Sawamura Tanosuke III portraying Kangiku no Kinomatsu in the play Tokaido Iroha Nikki. This scene shows Kangiku no Kinomatsu crossing the Oi river, being carried on a platform by four men. The print is signed Toyokuni-ga in a red and yellow toshidama cartouche and is stamped with the censor seal which also has a date. Another edition of this print is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston!

Provenance: Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
