Maxwell D. Taylor (1901-1987) General, statesman. Taylor helped organize the U.S. Army's first airborne division during WWII. Later he was superintendent of West Point and directed UN forces during the Korean War. He was also a trusted adviser to John F. Kennedy who appointed him chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. . 6 ¾” x 10” autograph letter signed, personal stationery, March 7, `980, to “Dear Steve”. “…Probably the greatest advantage to me of being a professional soldier was the opportunity to serve the country in important assignments in three wars in company with able and congenial associates…All in all, the Army was the right place for me – I would not have exchanged my career for any other….”
