A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., 'U.S. General Hospital No. 3' Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Aug. 15, 1865, informing a Mr. Charles Lamb of the death of a family member. In part: ‘...It becomes my painful duty to inform you of the death of Mr. John J. Lamb who belonged to Co. B 2nd Batt. 19th U.S. [?] and came to the hospital July 30th having the typhoid fever of which he died August 5th. His effects are now in the care of surgeon in charge of the hospital and to procure the same, you must go to a Justice of the Peace and prove that you are the nearest him...’.
