Description
Native American, Eastern to Southern United States, Eastern Woodland / Mississippian, ca. 500 to 1500 CE. An interesting and well preserved discoidal, a stone used for a game, made from a mottled green-hued granite. As the name suggests, this is a disc-shaped piece, and it features a rounded edge and slightly indented face on both sides with a circular rim in the center. Such stones were treasured teaching items used in a game known as chungke or chunkey, to improve accuracy of spear throwing and archery skills. Size: 5" Diameter x 1.75" H (12.7 cm x 4.4 cm)
