Native American, Southeastern United States, Kentucky, Hopewell culture, Middle Woodland period, ca. 100 to 500 CE. A fine gathering of 5 stone celts each skillfully pecked and polished into blades, scrapers, or other cutting tools. The broad faces taper to a thick butt opposite a flared cutting edge. Celts could be used as handheld tools for a variety of ritualistic or utilitarian tasks such as scraping, cutting, digging, or they could be hafted onto handles for greater leverage. Each of these blades are excellent with well worked forms, and some are very polished with a silky texture- the pale peach colored stone may have even been used for burial and is inherently beautiful material with little to no wear on the blade. Size: 2" L x 1.5" W x 5" H (5.1 cm x 3.8 cm x 12.7 cm)
