Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An attractive set of five hand-built pottery bowls of petite sizes with stable bases. The first features a wide cruciform pattern with additional linear details. The second has four quadrants of linear bars. The third features a foot and displays broad red and orange stripes within the basin. The second-largest bears circular panels with radiating sun motifs. The largest vessel exhibits straight and zigzagging lines alternating within four quadrants. Size of largest: 4.25" W x 1.6" H (10.8 cm x 4.1 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

Condition
Largest bowl repaired from multiple large pieces, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. All bowls have minor abrasions to bases, basins, and rims, with fading and darkening to original pigmentation, and minor pitting; four smaller bowls are intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice remains of original pigment throughout.
