Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a sizable form with a round base, broad walls with central carination, and a thick rim hanging over the deep basin. The highly burnished vessel features motifs of mirrored triangles and vertical stripes atop a cream-hued ground, and the lower body features two solid red stripes bisected by a cream stripe. Size: 8.75" W x 3.8" H (22.2 cm x 9.7 cm)

Stabilization to one large fissure stemming from rim to basin center, with small chips and light adhesive residue along fissure lines. Minor abrasions to rim, shoulder, and base, with very light fading to original pigment, and small areas of fire-darkening, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and great remains of original pigment throughout.
