Description
**Originally Listed At $150**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A hand-built terracotta vessel modeled to represent a large gourd with smooth 'skin' - its body of a bulbous form with a long, curled stem - with a tubular neck and an arched strap handle joining the lower end of the neck to the shoulder of the vessel. Perhaps this bowl graced the tomb of an individual or held an offering of the squash that it represents. A very attractive form replete with meaning as squashes were symbols of fertility and abundance. Size: 6.2" L x 3.75" W x 6.1" H (15.7 cm x 9.5 cm x 15.5 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
