Description
**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery bowl with a planar base, a wide body, inward-angled walls, a deep interior cavity, and a thin rim decorated with a thick, dark-brown stripe on the inside. The exterior is painted with a wondrous zoomorphic register including a bird with a broad tail, spindly legs, an aquiline beak, and wide wings boasting blue and white feathers as well as a bird-headed lion with a sinuous tail, a striped body, and one front paw extended. Two wide panels of abstract linear and geometric motifs separate the two figures, and all painted details are presented atop a pale orange ground. Size: 5.125" W x 2.925" H (13 cm x 7.4 cm).
