Description

General Orders No. 231 issued July 23rd, 1863 by the War Department, detailing the court martial of Private John O’Brien of the 1st California Cavalry and Private Thomas Boylan of the 1st California Infantry. Private O’Brien was accused of attempting to kill his superior officer and Private Boylan was charged with “disobedience of orders” amongst several other violations. Both were found guilty and sentenced to death. Three pages, spine separated.
