Carte-de-visite (CDV) of double-amputee Alfred Stratton of the 147th New York Infantry. No imprint.
Alfred A. Stratton enlisted with with 147th New York on August 19, 1863, as a substitute for a man named August Lass who had been drafted. Alfred was severely wounded by cannon fire during the Battle of Petersburg on June 18, 1864, and as a result lost both arms by amputation.
