CDV of 19-year-old Albert M. Chapin, one of the "Red Legged Devils from Brooklyn," by Thomas Heney, 148 Chatham St. New York, NY, in the unique red-trimmed chasseur uniform worn by this regiment. Chapin joined Co. C of the "Fighting Fourteenth" N. Y. Militia (84th NY Vol. Inf.) Sept. 5, 1862.
Chapin fought as part of the I Corps at South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. He was killed in action late in the morning of July 1, 1863, at Gettysburg in the ferocious fighting at the railroad cut.
He is buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
