Description
Carte-de-visite (CDV) of Acting Master Walter E.H. Fentress. Signed in ink on the front, verso bearing a tax revenue stamp and the photographer’s imprint, “Oak Gallery, 282 Main St., Memphis Tenn. J. W. Taft, Artist.” Mount is trimmed.
Acting Master Fentress was captured in Rodney, MS on September 13, 1863, and confined at Libby prison until he was released in October 1864. He returned to serve as commander of the USS Mist until the end of the war.
