Unissued 1777 Revolutionary War "Sword-in-Hand" Vignette Massachusetts Bay Treasury Bond Certificate
1777-Dated Revolutionary War. Massachusetts Bay, Treasury Certificate. Rare Unissued Form. Anderson MA-8., Extremely Fine.
Rated R-5 by Anderson (31-75 believed to exist), possible unique as an unissued full Certificate with full Jumbo margins. Centerfold and two small cut cancels, 2" edge split at upper right and top centerfold with some light tone. This unissued full form was likely a sample. It measures about 11.5" x 9" being a Printed Certificate on fine laid period paper. American "Minuteman" Patriot with his "Sword-in-Hand" and holding a scroll with the word "Independence" encircled by a rattlesnake at the upper left corner, which was engraved by silversmith Nathaniel Hurd, after the design by Paul Revere. Latin phrase "By arms he seeks peace with freedom." Signed by D. Jeffries, (Committee). Extremely rare full and complete as shown and having its full indenture left margin and selvage intact. The largest and very first we have offered as such.
