Description
**First Time At Auction**
Papua New Guinea, Madang Province, Ramu / Upper Keram River, ca. mid 20th century CE. A trio of hand-carved wooden ancestral masks with elongated ovoid forms, minimalist anthropomorphic faces, and slightly concave versos, all adorned with applied orange and white pigment and outlined in black. The faces are composed of raised eyes with recessed pupils, slender noses, angular mouths, and peaked brows. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size of largest (rightmost mask): 3.1" W x 23" H (7.9 cm x 58.4 cm); 23.25" H (59.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Healy collection, Studio City, California, USA, acquired over the last twenty years

Condition
All masks have surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small chips to upper and lower tips, facial details, and some ridges, light fading and staining to pigmentation, and light roughness across most surfaces, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout. Each mask mounted with metal loop screw and string on verso for suspension.
