**First Time At Auction**
Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Ramu / Upper Keram River, Madang Province, ca. mid-20th century CE. A set of two beautiful ancestral masks, hand-carved from hard wood, each with circular eyes, slender noses, thin mouths, and areas of curved, recessed panels. Thick swaths of red, yellow-orange, white, and espresso-hued pigment cover the front of both masks, and the larger mask exhibits carved sections of dense geometric motifs both above the eyes and below the chin. A fabulous ensemble! Size: 3.7" W x 16.6" H (9.4 cm x 42.2 cm).
Provenance: private Healy collection, Studio City, California, USA, acquired over the last twenty years

Condition
Both masks have small chips and light fading to pigmentation, minor nicks to front, back, and peripheries, and wear to some high-point areas, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout. Both masks mounted for suspension on verso with loop and wire.
