Description
Heavy hand mortar with bronze barrel dating from the 2nd half of the Edo period, ichikakku/maru barrel decorated with karabana mon at the powder chamber. The ichikakku form turning into maru form after baluster and maru muzzle. At the top sujiwari (rear sight), shogi sakimeate (front sight), and four kanji "Ichi Tsu (?) Tate Yajiri" ("The only true shield against arrow heads"?), no inscription. Smooth brass lock with internal spring and iron hammer, fire pan and fire lid missing. Clear lacquered full stock of Tosa type. Barrel length 69 cm, overall length 106 cm, 64.5 mm calibre (440 monme).
