Early Edo Period Japanese Matchlock Musket. Unserialized, approximately .60 caliber, 39-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and fixed grooved-block rear sight. Decorative etched fowl and floral designs to top of barrel. Smooth hardwood stock with decorative floral inlays. Brass barrel bands. Wooden ramrod. Original brass museum inventory tag attached: J.M. DAVIS / 7953 / MEMORIAL. Sold to Benefit The JM Davis Collection at the JM Davis Arms and Historical Museum, Part II. Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear, age and pitting. Scuffs and dings present to stock. Action functions. Dark bore.
