Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. mid to late 18th century CE. A gorgeous and well-made cast-brass triptych traveling icon depicting multiple religious events - two small square scenes on each lateral panel, and a larger central scene depicting the Virgin Mary and the young Jesus Christ. At the top of the central panel are images of God the Father, the Holy Trinity, and two seraphim looking downwards. Molded brass and low-relief Cyrillic writing forms the major parts of each panel, though sadly the Cyrillic text is no longer legible. Icons served as an easily transportable method for traveling priests to teach the stories that made up the foundation of Orthodox Christianity. Size (when open): 3.5" L x 4.25" W (8.9 cm x 10.8 cm).
