Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A beautiful three-panel brass traveling icon with the central image of Saint George slaying the evil dragon as a heavenly depiction of God the Father looks down from above. The lateral panels portray Biblical scenes from the life of Jesus Christ, including Jesus riding into Jerusalem, the Holy Trinity, and a Baptismal font. Areas of navy-blue and creamy-white enameled inlays adorn the recessed areas surrounding the iconography, adding a colorful decoration to the icon. A fabulous example! Size (panels open): 4" W x 5.625" H (10.2 cm x 14.3 cm).

Condition
Expected surface wear commensurate with age, slight bending to lateral panels and overall form, and some abrasions and roughness to verso. Fading to imagery, with some minor losses and discoloration to enamel inlays, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
