Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Vicus culture, 200 BCE to 600 CE. A fun stirrup jar in the form of an animal with a snake-like body and with a mammalian, rodent-like head. Bands and dots of red, cream, and black pigment give the body an interesting texture and enhance its snake-like look. Vicus ceramics were influenced by the Gallizano and Salinar cultures, north in Ecuador. Animal figures are particularly popular in their ceramics, and probably indicate a keen cultural awareness of the natural world. Size: 6" L x 7.3" W x 6.55" H (15.2 cm x 18.5 cm x 16.6 cm)
Provenance: private Joan Hersey Pavao collection, acquired in the 1970s
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
