Description
Pre-Columbian, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 500 to 600 CE. A polychrome pottery jar with a delightful frog form with three dimensional head and twin points on the back. Painted limbs and body of the frog surround the mouth of the vessel. This style is the black on red, from the Cubita group, associated with the central region of Panama, relatively early in this pottery tradition. The background color is a deep orange and there are red flourishes around the body of the frog. Size: 7.25" W x 4.5" H (18.4 cm x 11.4 cm)
