Pre-Columbian, Bolivia, Lake Titicaca region, Tihuanaco, ca. 400 to 700 CE. A graceful, polychrome (red, black, and orange) pottery kero - used for drinking libations such as Chicha (a native beer made from fermented corn) - presenting a characteristic beaker form with a wide, flared rim. The walls are decorated in two registers; the upper register featuring four large profile anamorphic heads, most likely llama forms; the lower wider register adorned with a pair of domesticated llamas standing in silhouetted profiles and linked by a rope, each llama with a large bird perched atop its back. A lively example boasting a strong form and fabulous iconography. Size: 4.25" in diameter at widest point x 5.5" H (10.8 cm x 14 cm)
