Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. A rare form of a figural ceramic jar that looks similar to the cuchimilco figures the Chancay placed into graves. The figure has a bulbous, monkey-like body with anthropomorphic facial features; he has deepset, bulging, round eyes; wide, slightly concave ears; and a brightly painted face and body. The tall spout of the figure flares outward slightly; around its unpronounced rim is a painted triangular design that may symbolize pyramids. The Chancay artisans created ceramics that are quite distinctive in form and decoration that were finely painted and molded with specific decorative details carefully added by hand. Size: 6.25" W x 8.3" H (15.9 cm x 21.1 cm)
