Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A miniature pottery figure of a standing female. She stands on her own, arms thrust backward from the shoulder, chest forward. Her head is oversized for her body, with wide, staring eyes of an unusual style for the Jalisco, large nose and ears, and an elongated head. Her ears are drilled so that rings, feathers, or some other decorative ornament could be suspended from them. Size: 2" W x 5.5" H (5.1 cm x 14 cm)
Pigment on the body adds further details - the head and legs are painted a dusky grey; white pigment marks out the ears and what looks like a belt. Black and white pigment on the upper body probably represent tattooing. A nice and detailed example of a Jalisco figure.
Provenance: Ex-private , San Francisco, CA Collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
