Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A sweet Jalisco handbuilt bichrome terracotta couple, the male seated with hands placed upon upraised knees, the female sitting with her legs folded beneath her torso and her hands over her abdominal area, both with characteristically tall elaborately decorated headdresses, large ear ornaments, and boldly delineated features including pointy noses and ears characteristic traits of so-called "sheepface" figures, all adorned in red slip with extensive white details. A lovely pair. Size: taller figure measures 4.875" H (12.4 cm)
Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery

Condition
Surface fissure to front side of female's neck. Male shows loss to tip of one ear. Both with normal surface wear and abraded areas. Nice areas of manganese deposits. Nice root marks on male's face.
