Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built standing pottery female figure with delineated legs and three toes on each foot, a bulbous abdomen beneath globular breasts, planar shoulders and hanging arms, and a thick neck. Her elongated head boasts coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a petite mouth, a prominent aquiline nose, perky ears, a pointed chin, and a wide forehead, all beneath a striated headband. The figure is embellished with red slip and areas of added black pigmentation, giving it a characteristic presentation evocative of ancient West Mexico! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 3.5" W x 5.625" H (8.9 cm x 14.3 cm); 6.4" H (16.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s

Condition
Figure glued to stand and cannot be removed. Small loss to back of one foot. Restoration to figure's left arm. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small nicks to feet, body, arms, and head, with fading to some areas of applied pigmentation, and light roughness across most surfaces. Nice earthen deposits and encrustations throughout.
