Description
This is an ancient ceramic idol from Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, dating to ca. 300 BC to 300 AD. A female pottery figure with exaggerated breasts and a slightly distended belly, traits almost universally interpreted to be indicative of fertility. The figure features coffee-bean shaped eyes and an elaborate headdress in the West Mexican shaft tomb cultural tradition. The sculpture measures 3.5 inches tall x 2.25 inches wide. The figure will also include a custom display stand. Provenance: Ex T. Jones collection, New York.
