A copy of Walt Whitman's Song of the Broad Axe, illustrated by woodworker and printmaker Wharton Esherick and published by the Centaur Press of Philadelphia in 1924. This is copy 263 of a limited edition of 400. Signed by the artist on one of the blank leaves at the front dated 1927. Ten full-page woodcuts, two smaller ones on the title page and at the end of the text, and the colophon.

Lacking DJ. Printed paper-covered boards worn. back strip lacking, front hinge failing, front cover partially attached, but binding solid. A couple of spots on the half title but otherwise internally clean. Most of the loosely-inserted tissue guards still present.
