Yoruba Ritual Axe for Ogun - 19th Century Aboriginal Indigenous Art- Once ritualware from the Yoruba people of Nigeria, Africa. Made of wood and iron. Ogun is the Yoruba god of iron, and all those who work with iron, such as warriors, blacksmiths, hunters and many others, depend on this metal for their health and livelihood. This object would have been held and wielded by a Yoruba devotee during rituals, and then put to rest within a shrine. Measures 19" x 10.5" x 1.5". Item comes from the collection of Timothy Koock.
