**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, late Moche to early Sican / Lambayeque, ca. 800 to 900 CE. An amusing, hand-built blackware pottery cup with a rounded base, gradually-tapering walls, a deep interior cavity, and a thin rim. Central to the body is a relief depiction of the Moche god of the underworld, Ai Apec. The deity sports bulbous eyes, a prominent, upturned nose, ovoid ears, deep facial wrinkles, and a wide mouth displaying several fangs and a drooping tongue. His broad brow line depicts an abstract W-shaped groove. A very expressive example! Size: 5" H (12.7 cm).

Expected age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, fading to coloration, minor area of loss to base, with small chips to face and rim, otherwise very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
