Description
**Originally Listed At $200**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Wari / Huari culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. This is a textile depicting a single mythological being, and its threads are of vivid hues like red, salmon, gold, black, teal, and yellow-green. The figure is shown as wearing an ornate headdress, having wide disc-shaped eyes, abstract hands, and very elongated fingers. Wari textiles, like the Inca that followed them, were woven on a wide, rectangular framed loom. They were warped on the short direction so the warp would run horizontally when worn as a tunic, and most examples like this were made with either white cotton or camelid (alpaca) fiber or some combination of the two. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing and framed. Size: 4.5" L x 2.75" W (11.4 cm x 7 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia between 1971 and 1972
