**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Lima area, Ica culture, ca. 1000 CE. This earthtone textile section is comprised of tightly-woven fibers in brown, maroon, crimson, and emerald hues. The composition includes five distinct pairs of abstract, zoomorphic, and cyclopean feline figures, each with a spiralized tail, acutely-arched back, and prominent disc-shaped singular eye. Another pair of zoomorphic figures is present, however these figures are comprised of two back-halves, similar to the other feline-like figures, that have been fused together (neither having a head or front end). Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 20.5" L x 2.625" W (52.1 cm x 6.7 cm)
Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
