With initials in red and brown throughout. Bound in 19th c. 1/2 morocco over marbled boards, marbled endpapers, slight loss at spine ends and small remnant of old label near base of spine, contents with some light soiling/handling in places throughout, 19th c. ink-stamps to lower title margin and blank verso of final text leaf, early paper repair to title margin, instances of small marginal notations and corrections in early ink, old bibliographical clippings tipped onto ffe, Good+. ***************************** First edition of the present treatise by this important early church father from Constantinople. Chrysostom loudly condemned abuses of power by the church and political institutions. The present treatise was written while he was in banishment in the Taurian desert.
