Description
Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A flat mask in the form of a small face surrounded by four large, heron-like birds, their long, white-painted beaks forming a frame. The face is yellow, dominated by a huge red and white helmet-like forehead; the body of the figure is tiny below the face, with thin, bent, red limbs folded up around the white, skeletal-looking torso. The birds rest on a border of snake-like figures. Size: 11.45" W x 21.6" H (29.1 cm x 54.9 cm)

Condition
Wear to pigment commensurate with age; most of it is still in nice, bright condition. Top has been drilled through for suspension with an attached wire, as shown.
