SPILLER FAMILY OF VIRGINIA EPHEMERA ARTICLES, LOT OF EIGHT comprising a spoon attributed to the Spiller homestead, Glencoe, VA, two letters, and five photographic images related to the Spiller family, including an albumen-type portrait image of George Spiller (1845-1931), with ink inscription "Your best-looking cousin" and signed "George Spiller". Second half 19th/first quarter 20th century.
Very good as-found condition, some expected wear and staining/toning, some images with expected losses or scratches.
Catalogue Note: George Spiller Sr. was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), class of 1866. He enrolled at VMI on January 1, 1862, and served with the VMI Corps of Cadets at the Battle of New Market, May 15th, 1864, where he was wounded. He was promoted to Cadet Sergeant on March 1, 1865, and remained in service with the Corps of Cadets in the trenches around Richmond, VA, until April, 1865.
