Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-made terracotta vessel of an unusual four-sided rectangular form. It has a flat base with four incised circles in each corner and an illegible planta pedis (maker's mark), angular sides, rounded shoulders, an arching and pierced handle, an ovoid recessed tondo with small fill and vent holes, and a protruding wick spout. Two incised circles are visible on both the front and back of each shoulder, and give the vessel an elegant appearance. Size: 3" L x 2.5" W x 1.75" H (7.6 cm x 6.4 cm x 4.4 cm).
Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
