Description
American Engraved Powder Horn, c. 1803, carved "DF" on wooden plug, with vignettes of an eagle, a ship, a banner, and a star, l. 15 in.; accompanied by a 19th c. chromolithograph "Saving the Life of Commodore Decatur". Provenance: This lot is accompanied by letters ascribing ownership of the horn to Daniel Frazier (1785-1833), a US seaman, thought to have saved the life of Commodore Decatur during an attack of Barbary pirates
