Notes: The set was published by Grant’s friend, Samuel Clemmons (Mark Twain) under the alias of his nephew, Charles L. Webster. Both volumes with numerous engravings, maps and tipped-in folding facsimile document in Volume 2.
2.) Book Title: Life of Washington, 4 volumes. Steel engraved portrait frontispiece in each volume.

Binding:. 10.5”h x 7.5”w, Leather binding with gilded highlights on the spine and an impressed and gilded image of the bust of George Washington surrounded by patriotic devices including Liberty, the American Flag and Eagle, Dove of Peace, Bible and Constitution; marbled boards and endpaper, bookplate. Former library book with bookplate at front and checkout slip at back from the William Luther Cobb Library at Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Binding: 7.375”h x 5”w, faux woodgrain with stamped gilded border.Notes: Without spine and with wear to all edges and brittle papers. Endpapers stamped and signed R. S. Vanderbilt.
