Large civil War archive penned by and relating to Colonel Nelson B. Bartram, who served in the Civil War for the Union as a Captain of Company "B" 17th New York Volunteer Infantry from May 1861 to June 1863 rising in rank to Lt Colonel. then served as Colonel of the 20th US Colored Troops & 55Th US Colored Troops, mustering out in 1865, the archive includes a portfolio of over 50 pages of letters written to his wife including a very detailed description of First Battle of Bull Run, including a detailed map of the battlefield, a declaration by the Union League Club signed by its members, his discharge papers from 1865, his Appointment to Lt. Colonel dated October 1863, a portfolio of appointment certificates for both Bartram and George DuBois, (12 appointments total), together with an ambrotype depicting two soldiers, medical diploma dated 1820 in original tin case, an album containing 38 photographs of soldiers in uniform, and Bartrams Officers Field Desk having a fitted interior with associated key
