Grant Ulysses
Ulysses Grant Writes Letter of Recommendation to Penn Railroad Pres., & Ex Secretary of War under Lincoln
Bi-fold autograph letter signed, 4.5" x 7". Penned by Ulysses S. Grant the recto of both pages, with versos left blank. Dated "Washington Dec 29, '79", and signed on the second page as "U.S. Grant". Near fine with expected folds.
Grant pens a lovely letter to Col. Thomas A. Scott, President of the Pennsylvania Railroad, (and who previously was the U.A. Assistant Secretary of War under President Lincoln), recommending Major William Moore. Shown in full below:
"This will present Maj Wm B. Moore who I can recommend as a very competent man in many ways, as a writer both for penmanship + composition, for execution ability+ e,.
Maj Moore would like employment either in the office of the Road, or in any place where he could be useful. I have no doubt - but he could be made very useful, and if he should be employed I would be very much disappointed if he did not prove so.
Very Truly Yours
U.S. Grant"
