Item Details

Description

Document on vellum, with attached large green wax Royal Medallion, signed by French King Louis Philippe (1773 - 1850). Also signed (twice) by the French Minister of Justice, Felix Barthe. Circa 1831 - 1839.

SIZE: Document - approx. 17.5” x 5” (44 cm x 13 cm) / Wax Seal - Medallion - 5” (12.5 cm). The wax medallion depicts a portrait of the King in profile on one side, and his coat of arms on the other side. The medallion is attached to the document with the original red and green silk ribbons. The green wax medallion-seal was used for “acts of permanent value”.

PROVENANCE: San Francisco collector’s estate.

NO RESERVE - NO BUYER’S PREMIUM

Condition

Foxing and toning to the vellum document. Possibly cut down. Signatures slightly faded. Wax seal - medallion with minor losses to the edges and overall wear. Silk ribbon faded.
