40.8mm. A very scarce medal, authorized struck by the U.S. Mint Director Snowden when the formation of his George Washington Cabinet. Likely Unique to the best of our knowledge, this is the sole existing example with a Contemporary Loop for suspension to wear and display. This medal was Struck at the U.S. Mint circa 1859 as one of just 57 struck in Silver from these dies, produced by making hubs from John Reich's original dies of 1806. This example is the Only Example Seen with a Contemporary Loop for suspension. The piece itself is brightly reflective on the obverse and reverse with beautiful highlights of gold and pale blue mixing with pretty silvery-blue tones with much original flash remaining. Currently housed in an official NGC Certified Holder which they expertly modified by them to accommodate the highly important Loop at top, plus just 57 medals were struck in Silver from these dies.
