Condition
Two rare editions, released the same year of the first issue. Francois Pierre Guillaume Guizot, 1787-1874, including all-time highs and French statesmen of the nineteenth century, the author of many famous works on the revolutions of France and England, was a constitutional monarchist in politics of positions not far from those of his friend Royer Collard. He served the Ministry of Education under Louis Philippe, by introducing a new system for primary education, and, in 1847, the post of Prime Minister. After the revolution of 1848 he went into exile in London.
In London exile, the Author express his point of view on the monarchy as well as the constitutional republicanism, the subject of severe criticism. The ills of France derived in the opinion of Guizot by a misguided idea of democracy as egalitarianism and leveling between classes; without prejudice to the need for legal equality between citizens, but must remain fixed points inequality of political powers and classes, which, if canceled, would lead to the absolutist tyranny or anarchy. The appeal of Guizot is addressed to the enlightened conservatism of the elites and offers the British constitutional system as a model to inspire them.Nice specimen.
Einaudi, 2810. Stammhammer, I, p.99. No in Goldsmiths.
