Description
1804 French Civil Code Napoleonic Wars French Revolution France LAW Paris
Beginning in 1804, The French Civil Code, or Napoleonic Code, was established under Napoleon Bonaparte. It strongly influenced the laws of many countries, especially those during the Napoleonic Wars and Middle Eastern countries seeking to modernize their political and governmental standards. This collection of laws and legal codes were established based on Justinian and Roman law rather than preexisting French laws.
However, these laws were not favorable with everyone. Women were given fewer rights, in fact, they were considered substantially inferior to men and even minorities. These codes; however, did provide a more stringent focus on military and included a complete overhaul of civil procedures.
